Health experts have been advising for years to moderate with salt. Yet this advice is often ignored. These tips can help you live healthier and at the same time not tasteless.
1. Use seasonings. Long live the fresh herbs, pepper (especially the mixtures of different kinds) and paprika! But roasted pine nuts and sesame seeds are also excellent.
2. Prefer homemade. Broth cubes and ready-to-eat meals usually contain too much salt. Herb dips and frozen homemade stock are better alternatives.
3. Look for snacks alternatives. Instead of chips and aperitif biscuits, you can also serve raw vegetables, for example, and how about a carpaccio instead of smoked salmon?
4. Season your salads with fruit vinegar-based vinaigrettes and spicy-tasting olive or nut oil.
5. Switch to frozen vegetables rather than canned vegetables. If you do use the latter, it is best to rinse them a few times with water.
6. Let rice and pasta cook without adding salt and add chopped and fried onion like in pilaf.
7. Freshen up a bland dish by adding two splashes of vinegar or lemon juice towards the end of cooking.
What should you not eat too often? Top 8: This is shockingly salty!
