One week after launch of an Azur number, pill users 3e and 4e generation will now be able to obtain information for free. By dialing 0800 636 636, they contact a team of teleoperators, supervised by a doctor and midwives. The line is open Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
“The current media debate has generated many questions among women, especially users of oral contraceptives. They need reliable information on 3rd and 4th generation pills,” indicates the ANSM at the initiative of this service. Objective: to reassure and encourage women “to turn to their prescriber to consider the contraceptive method most suited to their situation”.
This toll-free number was launched amidst the controversy over the dangerousness of pill 3e generation. According to an opinion issued by the Haute Autorité de santé at the end of 2012, the risk of thrombovenous complications is twice as high in users of 3rd generation pills than in women taking 2nd generation pills.
While the pills of 3e and 4e generation will be delisted next March, the ANSM asks health professionals to favor 1st and 2nd generation pills systematically. Those of 3e generation will only be prescribed if these 1time and 2e generation are problematic, in accordance with wish of the Minister of Health Marisol Touraine.
Already sales of 2 pillse generation have jumped in recent days, to the detriment of the 3e generation.
