Social media that are fed up with the statements of some figures: it happens. Now again now that YouTube has temporarily removed the president of Brazil from their platform.
It has been a debate for some time to what extent a social medium should intervene with regard to misinformation and, for example, intimidation via social networks. One says it must be broken down and the other believes in the right of free opinion. In any case, it has already happened that important figures have already been allowed to say goodbye to their social media accounts thanks to the spreading of incorrect views, for example Donald Trump’s Twitter ban.
YouTube bans president
Now there is another case where a president is thrown off a social medium. In this case Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro who was kicked out of YouTube. Bolsonaro was previously nicknamed ‘tropical Trump’ by the media, because the Brazilian president is also a somewhat controversial leader who does not mince his words. That went a step too far for YouTube with a ban as a result.
Statements COVID
Bolsonaro violated YouTube’s policy on statements related to COVID-19. YouTube cites President Bolsonaro’s video to claim that corona vaccines cause other diseases and infections. This statement was based on an incorrect statement claiming a link between corona vaccines and AIDS.
ban
The Brazilian president has ‘only’ to do something other than uploading on YouTube for a week, because that is how long the imposed suspension is. This is the second time that Bolsonaro has violated the guidelines on the platform. The account will therefore continue to exist.
