On Youtube, as on most social networks, there is both very good and very bad: in the midst of misinformation and hoaxes, there are thus explanatory videos (sometimes of very high quality) to understand everything at the health, history, geography, geology…
Yes, but here it is: how to tell the difference between an informative video and a video that conveys erroneous information, even fake news? The American giant Google (which owns Youtube) has decided to tackle the problem by creating certification for accounts maintained by doctors and health professionals.
A certification process with credential verification
The objective is of course to fight against disinformation: Youtube hopes to help its users to “find and interact with content“Reliable. This certification (which could take the form of the little blue dots that we already see on Facebook and Twitter) will go through verification of diplomas and will also be accessible to mental health professionals and institutions.
This measure (which will be put in place shortly, without a precise deadline having been announced) also aims to combat received ideas and conspiracy theories circulating about anti-Covid-19 vaccines: “content that falsely claims that approved vaccines are dangerous and cause chronic health effects, that claims that vaccines do not reduce the transmission of disease or the fact of contracting disease, or that contains erroneous information about the substances contained in vaccines will be discontinued“announced the American platform.
