Can we still eat a yogurtwhose expiration date (DLC) has passed? To find the answer to this question that everyone once asked themselves when opening the fridge, the magazine 60 million consumers analyzed the freshness of sixty yogurts, a week after their DLC, then two weeks and finally three weeks after this same DLC.
In his last issue, the consumers’ association presents the results by taking into account two markers of “freshness”: the bacterial flora and the pH (acidity index) and by verifying the absence of potentially pathogenic bacteria.
A microbiological quality that does not move
Race result: “Whatever they are, yogurts remain of good quality three weeks after the DLC. The pH varies very little and is around 4.3 to 4.4 on average throughout the study. Although there is a very slight acidification of the products, it would be imperceptible to consumers “ highlights 60 million consumers.
But above all, the microbiological quality remains very good and no pathogenic bacteria have been found, even three weeks after the expiry date.
Eating yogurt that has expired three weeks is therefore not a health hazard. Provided, of course, that it has been kept cool, that the jar or the lid are not swollen and that there is no bad smell or mold when opening.
