Prahlad Jani died on Tuesday at the age of 90. This Indian, who has been the subject of numerous medical tests, claimed to have neither eaten nor eaten since he was 11 years old.
- At 8 years old, he received the blessing of the mother goddess and protector, Amba Mata, who taught him the alchemical practice of yoga.
- He has not eaten or drunk since he was 11 years old.
- Doctors observed it and found no scientific explanation.
The mystery was never solved. Prahlad Jani lived his entire life in the small village of Charade, in the western Indian state of Gujarat, before passing away on Tuesday at the age of 90. It was his neighbor who found him dead of old age at his home. A life that he would have mostly spent without drinking or eating since he claims to have consumed nothing since he was 11 years old. “I receive the elixir of life through the hole in my palate, which allows me to live without food and water”, he told AFP in 2003.

Doctors without answers
His incredible story has attracted many devotees and created a community around him. It begins when he claims to have received at the age of 8 the blessing of the mother goddess and protector, Amba Mata, who taught him the alchemical practice of yoga. From the age of 11, he claims to have stopped eating and drinking, and remains alive solely on the energy given to him by his daily meditations. This alchemical theory of yoga claims that a mysterious nectar (amrita) would flow from the top of the skull to the stomach and that it would be possible to enjoy it without letting it get lost in order to live peacefully. Consciousness would then miraculously shift from a desirous state to an abstinent state of nutrients. This state would provide tranquility, silence, benevolence and absolute longevity to those who would be endowed with it.
This unverifiable theory has attracted the curiosity of many doctors. Twice, in 2003 and 2010, Indian medical teams went to observe him. During the second observation, where Prahlad Jani was monitored 24 hours a day by cameras and supervised by a team of 30 doctors for two weeks, he not only did not eat or drink anything but he also did not urinate or defecate, enough to amaze the doctors on the spot. “During the tests, we found that in the bladder of Prahalad Jani, the amount of fluid fluctuates even when he does not pass urine”, was surprised a member of the team of medical experts, to the Indian media DNA. The battery of tests conducted on the character then revealed normal results for this then 82-year-old man.
