It’s been scientifically proven for years that men and women have different brains. According to a recent study, they don’t age the same either. Explanations.
An age gap between a woman’s brain and that of a man
Studies are unanimous, women live longer than men; this disparity between the two sexes was raised again. This time it concerns the brain. Indeed, researchers have just discovered that the female brain ages less quickly than the brain of men.
We could formulate this discovery differently: men’s brains start adulthood earlier than women. There would even be several years of difference between the two. This is the conclusion of an American study published on February 4, 2019 in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Women’s brains age slower than men’s
Conducted by researchers at the University of Washington, this study involved the participation of 84 men and 121 women. Participants, aged 20 to 82, completed scanners to measure glucose levels and the flow of blood and oxygen in their brains. Why analyze this data? Quite simply because they make it possible to assess the age of the brain according to its metabolism.
Observing the metabolism of the participants’ brains enabled scientists to observe that, for women, the latter had on average an age that is 3.8 years younger than their actual age. For men, on the contrary, they are on average 2.8 years older than their real age. Another scientific discovery that shows how different men and women are.
