The number of Windows 10 installs has increased by a mind-bending amount: an increase of 100 million in the past 6 months. According to Microsoft, Windows 10 is now on more than 900 million devices. This is reported by CEO of Microsoft Modern Life, Search & Devices Group, Yusuf Mehdi.
Mehdi says that historically many new Windows 10 devices have been added in the past 12 months. These are PCs, the HoloLens, Xbox consoles and the Surface Hub. Also, the Microsoft by Numbers website updated.
Announcement new products
The Surface event is coming soon. At this event, Microsoft will announce new products. Mehdi states that many new devices will be added next week. Microsoft is rumored to be launching a dual-display Surface device that runs on a “lightweight” version of Windows called Windows Core OS. This name has previously appeared at geekbench.
Dates
There is hardly any official data on the number of Windows 10 installations. In March, Microsoft announced that Windows 10 was installed on 800 million devices. In November 2017, the number of registered devices with Windows 10 would be 600 million, according to Microsoft. According to technology specialist Paul Thurrot, this number would be much lower, because virtual machines were still included at the time. Microsoft’s initial plan was to provide one billion devices worldwide with Windows 10 by 2018. However, this target was rejected in 2016. If current growth continues on an upward trajectory, there will be one billion devices running Windows 10 in Q1 2020.
