Do not sleep naked without a blanket or sheet
When the mercury rises and the number of clammy nights increases, we tend to go to sleep naked and without blankets. While that’s tempting when it’s really hot in the bedroom, it’s not such a good idea.
Sleeping naked, without a sheet or blanket, can be very nice during the summer heat. According to sleep expert Hans Hamburger, it is better not to do this alone, because you cool down much too quickly. Hamburger told RTL Nieuws: “When you sleep, your body temperature drops. Then you wake up at night, but then from the cold.” You can also suffer from stiff muscles. He therefore advises you to put something over you, whether that is a sheet, blanket or bedspread.
bed rituals
Are you not used to sleeping naked? In that case, according to psychologist and sleep expert Annelies Smolders, you better not do that during a heat wave. “Your body is not used to that and is attached to your bedtime rituals. What can help is to replace your nightgown with a cotton top to have a fresher feeling and swap your duvet for a sheet. Even if it is warm at night. at night, it is quite normal that you get cold at some point. Most people like to lie under something,” Smolders told Algemeen Dagblad.
If you always like to sleep naked under the blanket, then this is of course no problem. In fact, that’s just very healthy. This way you stay young, you have more sex and you have less chance of vaginal infections.
nightwear
Although sleeping naked (under the blanket) has many advantages, it appears from research that most Dutch people prefer to wear nightwear. This is remarkable, because such pajamas or nightgowns mainly have disadvantages. This allows it to creep up, so that you sleep less peacefully. Would you rather wear something? Then make sure that you do not wash your nightwear with fabric softener in the summer months. This also applies to your bedding. It turns out that fabric softener can reduce the fabric’s ability to absorb moisture, causing us to sweat more at night and therefore sleep less well.
