It started with the Pyrénées-Orientales, then Hérault, Corsica, Bouches-du-Rhône followed … but faced with the 4th wave of covid-19, now almost all coastal departments (therefore all departments which have seen tourists arrive since the beginning of July) once again impose the wearing of masks outdoors in the main seaside towns. In addition to these maritime departments, Haute-Savoie, with the city of Megève and Meurthe-et-Moselle, where 21 municipalities (including Nancy) are affected by this restriction measure.
In total, on Tuesday, July 27, the prefects of about twenty departments made the outdoor mask mandatory, to cope with the spread of the delta variant, now the majority in France. For the moment, the beaches are not concerned but the prefects could impose it again if the health situation deteriorates after the massive arrival of Augustians.

Getting your mask wet is a bad idea
On vacation, when you spend the day sightseeing with the mask on your face, the temptation can be great to run it under cold water to cool your face a bit. : the daily news live .. Yes, but here it is: getting your mask wet is a (very) bad idea. Indeed, as the French Association for Standardization (Afnor) explains, the effectiveness of the mask against the Sars-Cov-2 coronavirus depends on “the static electricity of the fibers of the fabric which stops the droplets of the postilions. However, if the mask is wet, this static electricity disappears and the droplets pass more easily.“Result: we have an unnecessary (and embarrassing) mask on the face.
In a statement released last summer, the Directorate General of Health affirmed that “you should never humidify [son masque], although it can provide a feeling of refreshment. If the mask is wet, it must be changed because its effectiveness is no longer guaranteed.“. No question of running your mask under cold water, sprinkling it with a sprayer or putting it in the freezer (!) To cool off.
To cool off without sacrificing barrier gestures (including wearing a mask!), The Robert-Sauvé Canadian Research Institute in Occupational Health and Safety recommends regularly wetting your forehead and neck, and breathing rather through the nose to avoid generating heat in the mask.
