As it celebrates its 20th anniversary, the Volkswagen Touareg will be brought up to date in 2023. From photos of prototypes, illustrator Nikita Chuiko drew the restyled version of the premium SUV.
No, the Volkswagen Touareg has not said its last word. Launched in 2018, the third generation of the German SUV arrives at mid-career and is therefore about to receive a facelift. Currently in the road test phase, the vehicle, still well camouflaged, was surprised by spy photographers. This allowed illustrator Nikita Chuiko to think of proposals. So what to expect?
A completely redesigned front end
The most important change imagined is at the front of the Touareg. The upper part is similar to that of the Arteon sedan, with spotlights connected by two chrome strips. The all-black grille is imposing and falls to the bottom of the shield. In this case, the latter has been reworked with ends with a more aggressive design. If no change has been made on the profile, on the back on the other hand the light signature benefits from a new graphic design. It is characterized by a thin band of LEDs at the top of the optics and by a thicker second, but this time discontinuous, at the bottom. Finally, the dummy exhaust pipes have been redesigned, as has the rest of the bumper.

Plug-in hybrid only
In France, the Volkswagen Touareg range revolves around the same plug-in hybrid engine. It is a strong 340 hp 3.0 TSI petrol V6, combined with a 136 hp (100 kW) electromotor. The whole develops a power of 381 hp for the eHybrid version and 462 hp for the more muscular Touareg eHybrid R. In addition, rumors announce an increase in autonomy in 100% electric thanks to a larger battery. The hybrid SUV could thus travel more than 60 km instead of about forty currently. This restyled version will be marketed in 2023, but for the 20th anniversary of its SUV, the manufacturer could unveil it by the end of the year.
