The next member of the Volkswagen electric ID family. will be unveiled in the form of a concept car, the ID.Aero, at the Beijing Motor Show. Marketed in 2023, this electric family sedan will take over from the Passat, which will only continue its career as an SW station wagon.
The mystery still hangs over the possible maintenance of the Beijing show, scheduled for April 21 to 30, due to the Covid epidemic. Volkswagen is to present the ID Aero B concept car there, which foreshadows the future electric family of the range. According to our information, it should go into production in the spring of 2023 and then be marketed in the second half.
3 concepts for 1 model
The announcement of this type of model in the range is not new. In 2018 and 2019, the manufacturer had already unveiled two concept cars: the IDs. Vizzion and ID. Space Vizzion. Each featured a body type, namely sedan and station wagon. Since then, rolling prototypes have been seen on Spanish and Chinese roads. And it’s a 3and concept car which will therefore be revealed under the name ID. Aero, as Volkswagen announced at its conference on March 15, 2022. This is no surprise since the model is internally referred to by the pseudonym Aero B.
As for the name of the production sedan, there is uncertainty. It could thus take the name ID.6, even if it already designates in China the SUV ID.6 X or ID.6 Crozz whose name varies according to the local manufacturer which produces it. Another possibility, the surname of ID.7 has also been registered by the German brand.
More than 700 km of autonomy
The future ID Aero will use the Volkswagen Group’s modular MEB platform, like the rest of the ID range. The Wolfsburg firm promises a range of at least 700 km WLTP. This will be the case of the higher version equipped with two electric machines and a battery close to 120 kWh. On the lower floor, the German will have a single engine located at the rear. In Europe, it will be manufactured at the Emden plant in Germany.
