A ready-made naan bread is of course bought and heated up in no time, but making your own is surprisingly easy, very nice and just as tasty.
Ingredients
-
250 grams whole wheat spelled flour
-
½ sachet baking powder
-
2 tablespoon yogurt
-
butter or ghee
Preparation
-
Mix the flour with 1 teaspoon of salt, the baking powder and the yogurt.
-
Gradually mix in 120 ml lukewarm water and knead with your hands to a smooth dough.
-
Let the dough rest covered for 1 hour.
-
Heat the oven grill to the highest setting. Divide the dough into 8 portions and make flat rolls, about 1 cm thick. Brush the top with melted ghee or butter.
Place the buns on a baking sheet and let them swell under the grill (but not too close) for about 2 minutes. Turn the buns and heat them again for about 2 minutes. Keep an eye on it, because the buns brown very quickly.Tips
-
Make variations by sprinkling the naans with slivers of red pepper, minced garlic, freshly chopped coriander or poppy seeds before baking.
