While the recent used market is struggling, the market for cars over 8 years old is booming. But which models are benefiting the most from this enthusiasm among buyers? L’argus invites you to discover it in figures and images.
When the new home market cries, it’s often the second-hand market that laughs. In the first half of 2021, sales of second-hand cars jumped 31.9% compared to the same period of 2020, which had been penalized by the first confinement. Compared to 2019, the last “normal” year, the increase still reached 9.1%, which remains remarkable. But not all age groups are in the same boat. Models less than 1 year old are even down 28%, and those less than two years old are down 37.5% compared to last year. It is therefore primarily older vehicles that are favored by buyers. With a domination of 8 years and over, who represent 51.8% of transactions.

When people carriers dominate SUVs
For the automotive industry, 8 years is already an eternity. The fourth generation of Clio had just started its career, just like the first 208 of the name. At the top of our ranking, behind the indebted city car of the Losange, we therefore rather find the 206, including the 206+, and the 207. The 307 is largely ahead of a 308 which is still a little too recent. But it ranks behind the Volkswagen Golf and Renault Mégane, which benefit from the fact that they have kept the same name over time. As for SUVs, which exploded only a few years ago, they are very discreet here. The best placed of them, the Peugeot 3008, is even at the back of the pack. On the verge of extinction in nine, minivans remain the favorites of families with a more limited budget, as evidenced by the beautiful seventh position occupied by the Scénic.
