Researchers at the University of Georgia (USA) found that young women in lack of sleep chronic who climbed and descended stairs at a steady pace for at least 10 minutes felt more energized and motivated than those who swallowed 50 mg of caffeine, the equivalent of a can of caffeinated soda.
The researchers have just published the results of this study in the journal Physiology and Behavior.
Energy boost and motivation at work
This experiment was carried out with a group of 18 women aged 18 to 23 who consume little caffeine, engage in recreational physical activity and sleep less than 45 hours per week (less than 6.5 hours of sleep each night).
The researchers analyzed the state of their mood, working memory, attention span and sense of energy before and after a 10-minute session of lowering and climbing stairs at a low to moderate pace. and compared them to a group given a 50 mg caffeine capsule and a group given a placebo.
