Truvada has been authorized for the prevention of HIV infection since January 4. 11 dedicated consultations have already opened. AIDES brings them together in a map.
Doctors in hospitals can officially prescribe Truvada for the prevention of HIV infection. Since January 4, the temporary recommendation for use (RTU) is effective. Already, 11 hospitals offer people at high risk a dedicated consultation. The AIDES association brought them together in one card, updated regularly.
Among the services that offer a PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) consultation, some have opened even before the RTU is actually put in place. This is the case for the two Parisian hospitals, Saint-Louis and Tenon, but also of l’Archet hospital in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes). They set an example in December, when the Gilead laboratory – which markets Truvada – could still oppose the decision of the National Medicines Safety Agency (ANSM).
These 11 consultations will welcome anyone who wishes to learn more about pre-exposure prophylaxis. But Truvada for prevention cannot be prescribed for everyone. Only adults (18 years and over) at high risk of becoming infected with HIV through sexual intercourse are affected by the RTU. The drug will be part of a broader prevention strategy, in which the use of condoms remains central.
As part of the recommendation, a pharmacovigilance portal is also set up by Gilead. It will make it possible to monitor the state of health of patients on PrEP, in particular cases of contamination (seroconversion).
