Over the years, the RAV4 has become gentrified. For its 2022 vintage, in addition to new LED headlights, the Toyota family SUV is getting back to basics thanks to the arrival of an Adventure version (Trail in France) with a more assertive off-road style.
If you are a regular reader of Argus, the RAV4 Adventure is not necessarily new to you. As early as April 2019, we told you about this more adventurous version, available since the beginnings of the fifth generation in Japan or the United States. Finally, Toyota has finally decided to stop depriving us of it. The manufacturer will take advantage of the arrival of the 2022 vintage family SUV to market this variant in Europe, with a slightly revised style at the same time. In France, this variation is renamed Trail.
A much less civilized facies
The novelty is the arrival of LED fog lights and headlights with a more sophisticated LED light signature, which will be used throughout the range. But the RAV4 Trail will keep the exclusivity of its black grille featuring the Toyota logo in its center, in the middle of two bars of the same color. It thus appears much less wise than the other versions, all equipped with a smaller and more sculpted chrome grille, with a logo higher perched.
To reinforce this “adventurous” side, the shields have also been revised, with a larger black part and more pronounced silver-colored protective skis. The wheel arches, widened, accommodate for their part specific 19-inch rims, painted in matt gray. As for the new marriage between an Aventurine green bodywork and a gray roof, it is not chosen at random: it is a tribute to the Land Cruiser FJ40, one of the brand’s most emblematic 4 x 4s.
Specific features also in the passenger compartment
Inside, the RAV4 Adventure offers a few other specifics. Its seats, partially padded, thus receive orange stitching that contrasts with the black leather. The name of the version is also affixed to the door sills. On the other hand, the new USB type C sockets, the LED interior lighting, the electric adjustment of the driver’s seat or the illuminated window lift buttons will not be reserved for this adventurous variation. The rest of the family SUV range will be able to benefit from it as part of the 2022 vintage.
Only offered as a 4 x 4 hybrid
This RAV4 Trail, which will be launched in the first quarter of 2022, has yet to reveal its prices. But no need to bet on a price that is too low, especially since it will only be offered with the 222 hp four-wheel drive hybrid engine, equipped with an additional electric motor on the rear axle. A way to honor its name even more, even if you don’t have to try the same off-road exploits as with a Land Cruiser FJ40.
