Experts, media, stars and influencers are multiplying nutrition advice. What the French support less and less!
- Two out of three French people believe that the multitude of recommendations makes their shopping more complicated.
- One in two people feel guilty when they do not pay attention to the various recommendations.
5 fruits and vegetables a day, avoid eating fatty or sugary foods, do not consume too much red meat… According to a new Opinion Way survey for Naturalia, the French are tired of being subjected to dietary diktats.
Tired of health and ecology
Culinary injunctions thus make two out of three respondents feel guilty, who also believe that information about food is too anxiety-provoking. 1 out of 2 respondents also thinks “that when it comes to food, there are dictates”, and “We too often invoke health or ecology to justify these diktats”.
A desire to relax confirmed by an Ifop study for Darwin Nutrition carried out in 2020, which showed that 56% of French people wanted to eat a balanced diet “without doing a strict diet”.
“You must not be totalitarian”
“There are foods that are fattier and sweeter than others, but that is not why it is forbidden to consume them. What is needed is to do it in an orderly way in relation to our personal consumption”, explains nutritionist Patrick Serog. “If we eat properly during the week and have a punctual pleasure, there is nothing wrong. We must not be totalitarian and completely banish junk food”, says the expert.
