Some experts speak ofimmunostimulating diet : adapt your diet to your blood type to increase your energy, limit external aggressions and be in better health.
Remember that a blood group corresponds to a set of antigens, substances capable of inducing an immune response by acting with other substances. It differs from one individual to another within the same species. Some blood groups are common, some less common, and some rare. Each individual has their own blood group and will keep the same throughout life. It exists 4 main groups, determined based on the antigens present on red blood cells (blood cells carrying oxygen in the blood): A, B, O and AB.
The blood group diet, advocated by the American naturopath Peter J. D’Adamo, imposes a food routine and a type of sport to practice, at the sole sight of the blood group to which one belongs.
If we follow the principles of this diet, to stay in shape, there would be, depending on the type of blood group to which we belong, foods that are good for us and foods to limit.
What to eat according to my blood type?
Based on the principle that people in group O are hunters, those in group A are agrarian, those in group B are nomadic and those in group AB are enigmatic, the naturopath recommends:
Group O : a diet high in protein, consisting of lean meat, poultry, fish and vegetables, and light in cereals, beans and dairy products. Peter J. D’Adamo also recommends various supplements to relieve tummy issues and other issues that people with type O tend to have.
Group A : a meatless diet based on fruits and vegetables, beans and legumes and whole grains – ideally organic and fresh, because the naturopath claims that people with blood type A have a vulnerable immune system.
Group B : avoid corn, wheat, buckwheat, lentils, tomatoes, peanuts and sesame seeds. Chicken is also problematic, according to the naturopath. It encourages the consumption of green vegetables, eggs, certain meats and low-fat dairy products.
AB Group Foods to focus on include tofu, seafood, dairy, and green vegetables. People with blood type AB tend to have low stomach acid. They should avoid caffeine, alcohol, and smoked or salted meats. It is recalled that these should be limited by the entire population to avoid diseases.
Should you follow a diet based on your blood type?
No scientific study supports the recommendations of the naturopath. “ A study found that adults on a type A diet showed improvement in health markers, but this happened in everyone, not just those with blood type A. In 2013, a major study concluded that there was no evidence showing the benefits of blood group-based diets “, underlines Dr. Melinda Ratini, general practitioner in Pennsylvania (USA), questioned by our American colleagues from WebMD.
If you follow a dietary pattern based on your blood type, you will probably lose weight, but it will be due to the character restrictive of your diet. However, our health authorities constantly remind us thatit is not recommended to focus on specific foods and exclude others. The key to good health is a varied and balanced diet.
“ The blood type diet advocates recommendations based solely on your blood type. So if you suffer from chronic disease (for example the diabetes), the diet proposed by Peter J. D’Adamo may conflict with your treatment plan », adds Dr Melinda Ratini.
Simply put, regardless of your blood type, you are recommended to avoid processed, sugary, and high-salt foods. Choose fresh fruits and vegetables, proteins, legumes and fish.
