Drinking three cups of tea a day prevents aging, according to a new study.
- Drinking three cups of tea a day may slow biological aging, new research suggests.
- Dr Yi Xiang, from Sichuan University, said: “We found that drinking around three cups of tea a day could have anti-aging effects. This could be because tea contains many bioactive compounds.
- “It has been previously reported that polyphenols in tea modulate the gut microbiota, which could have an important effect on the regulation of age-related changes in immunity, metabolism and cognitive functions” , adds the author of the study.
A new study demonstrated that drinking three cups of tea a day can slow biological aging.
Healthy chemicals in black tea and green tea may contribute to “positively impact aging” reducing cell damage and allowing organs to function longer.

To reach this conclusion, his team collected personal data from 5,998 British adults aged 37 to 73 and 7,931 Chinese adults aged 30 to 79. The scientists first asked them how much tea they drank per day, then measured their biological age using blood tests to detect changes in DNA.
After analysis, the researchers found that tea consumption, whatever the quantity, had reduced the speed of aging of the participants during two years of follow-up. This effect was maximum from three cups per day.
“Certain aspects of tea consumption – such as leaf type, concentration and temperature – could not be examined in depth in this study” can we read in the associated comment.
Previous research has shown that drinking tea may also reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease.
