So where should you live to age while experiencing fewer health problems?
Malta, country with the best healthy life expectancy
The first country with healthy life expectancy the highest in the EU is Malta. And this, for both men and women. It is 70.1 years for Maltese men and 70.3 years for Maltese women.
The rest of the classification varies depending on gender. For women, Bulgaria (68.9 years) and Slovenia (68.5) are second and third respectively. Next come Italy (67.8), Greece (67.8) and Ireland (66.8).
Among the men, second place goes to Sweden (67.5 years) while Italy (67.1) takes the third step of the podium. Next, in order, we find Greece (66.2), Cyprus (65.7) and Ireland (65.2).
European countries where people age least well
This established ranking also reveals the countries where the inhabitants age least well. Thus, women are in good health for less time in Denmark (54.6 years), in Latvia (55.4), in the Netherlands (56.3), in Finland (56.5), in Portugal (58) and in Slovakia (58).
It is not good for men to age in Latvia. Latvians only have a healthy life expectancy of 53 years. This is followed by Slovakia (56.6), Denmark (57.1), Estonia (58) and Lithuania (58.2).
The average number of years of healthy life in the EU is 62.6 years, according to Eurostat. For European women, the average is 62.8 years, or 75% of their total life expectancy. For men, it’s 62.4 years. Which represents 80% of their time on Earth.
But where is France located? For women, it’s 9e country in the ranking of healthy life expectancy. They live there for 65.2 years without irreversible disability or limitation. The men of France pass the double-digit mark. The country is, in fact, at the 10e place with an average of 63.7 years.
