It was believed for some time that this tiny skeleton that looked like an alien was that of an alien. Research established that it was a little girl with a rare syndrome.
The end of research around Ata’s skeleton
This tiny skeleton barely six inches long has been found October 19, 2003 behind an abandoned church of the Atacama Desert in Chile. At first, defenders of the theory of the presence of aliens on Earth argued that this skeleton was that of an alien.
At the end of 2012, scientists at Stanfort University in the United States ruled out this hypothesis because the DNA taken from this tiny body matched that of a human and more particularly of a little girl. It remained to be seen if she had lived and for how long.
A mummified fetus
The latest scientific results were published on March 22 and allow research to be completed around this strange mummified skeleton. Genetic analysis showed several rare mutations associated with dwarfism, malformations and premature aging. Bones do not belong to a 6 or 8 year old girl as they previously thought, but to a stillborn or dead baby just after birth.
We even know, thanks to the complete analysis of the genome, that this girl is from the island of Chiloé in Chile. The researchers hope that this discovery may advance science on the issue of treatments for people with bone problems. For the moment the skeleton returns to its country of origin and may be buried according to local customs.
