The Kia EV6 has won the title of Car of the Year 2022 after the vote of a jury of 59 European journalists. It emerged as the winner of the final just ahead of the electric Renault Mégane. This is the first time that a Korean manufacturer has won this trophy.
Of the 39 novelties named for this 2022 edition, there were only 7 models left before the final vote and that’s the Kia EV6 which wins the coveted title of Car of the Year with a total of 279 points. The Renault Mégane E-Tech (265 points) and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (261 points) complete the podium. A 100% electric SUV, the EV6 succeeds the Toyota Yaris, designated last year, and this is the first time that a Korean model has won this distinction since the creation of the Coty (Car of the Year) in 1964!

As a reminder, 59 journalists from 23 countries are taking part in the vote. The selected models must be marketed in at least 5 European countries in the last 12 months preceding the election, and sell at least 5,000 copies per year. Note that the Kia EV6 combines the rewards since it won the Trophy of L’argus on February 17 in the family SUV category.
The Renault Mégane E-Tech good loser
What a pity for the French compact… The Mégane E-Tech Electric led the dance for a large part of the press conference, organized in Geneva for the revelation of this trophy. She finally finished a few points from EV6, weighed down by the results of journalists from Northern Europe. It will however have been acclaimed by the French who awarded it 42 points, or 11 more than the second model.
The other finalists were not unworthy and are often a benchmark in their respective segments. We think of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, based on the same platform as the EV6 or the Peugeot 308, the only model among the finalists not to be 100% electric.
