Most people know the disc of five from healthy food, but a new disc of five has recently been distributed in Goes. This contains useful tips to prevent debit card fraud, chat tricks and other forms of crime.
The action is supported by the municipality of Goes, SMWO, the police and Allévo. An elderly worker from SMWO (Stichting Maatschappelijk Werk en Welzijn), Suzanne Koppejan, helped set up the campaign. “Unfortunately, I have experienced firsthand that people have become victims of a chat trick at an advanced age,” she says. “Very sad to see that their sense of security was seriously affected.”
Hard to estimate
According to Koppejan, vulnerable elderly people need a lot of help and they are used to many people coming over. ”Then it is sometimes very difficult to judge whether good people are at the door when the doorbell rings.
The disc of five:
Chat trick at the door: Do you doubt who is ringing the bell? Don’t let anyone in and ask for proof of identity
pins: Don’t let anyone watch the pin. Always shield your PIN code
whatsapp: Is someone you know asking for money? ‘No call = no money’
Email or SMS: An email or SMS may be fake. Don’t you trust it? Check first, then click.
Telephone: Someone calls you ‘on behalf of your bank’. Do not pass on any information and do not transfer money.
Koppejan hopes that the ‘disc of five’ will be an incentive for people to start a conversation about the different forms of crime. ”With your parents or other old people you have contact with.” People can, for example, also cut out the card and put it next to their phone. Koppejan herself points out that she is satisfied with the project if it is discussed a lot.
