Healthy food is not pathetic
You can go on a diet every Monday… and find out on Thursday that it has failed again. Discover the 6 Ways You Can Make Your Diet Fail. Guaranteed!
1. This time you do it completely different!
You suddenly have breakfast with green smoothies or fried eggs, you have lunch with a crunchy salad and in the evening you eat quinoa and lentil burgers with spinach. Very tasty, very healthy, but … erm … different. And that’s exactly where it goes wrong. You can’t keep changing everything at once! It’s much easier to tackle habits one by one. The result may not come as quickly, but it will come. And perseverance is almost automatic.
2. You NEVER eat again…
This is your New Year’s resolution: you will never eat chips again. And by the way, never again chocolate. This is also guaranteed to go wrong! Because every prohibition creates temptation. Anything you forbid yourself will ring in your head and only get more attractive. Don’t ban yourself. At most, set rules for how often and how much you want to eat from ‘temptations’. For example: chips are allowed, but only on weekends and only a small bag/tray.
3. You go to bed late
A lack of sleep is a proven risk factor for obesity. Probably a lack of sleep and the disruption of your biological clock causes the metabolism to drop. But there’s another side to it: when you’re tired, you tend to ‘eat away’ the fatigue. Sugar in particular gives a quick kick, so that you can take it again for a while. Unfortunately, the effect of sugar also wears off quickly. Going to bed earlier prevents snacking!
4. That glass of wine should be possible
Of course you should not forbid yourself wine (see point 2), but it is smart to moderate alcohol if you are on the line. Not only does such a glass of wine provide you with a lot of calories, it also ensures that the appetite increases and inhibitions are reduced. Before you know it, you’ll be snacking.
5. I eat everything lean
Opting for fat-free toppings, for low-fat margarine, lettuce without dressing and 20+ cheese… That’s not smart. Lean food is really outdated! A person needs fat in his diet, because of the healthy fats and the fat-soluble vitamins that occur in fat. You can’t do without fat. And another thing: fat provides satiety and is also the perfect carrier of taste. Taste the difference between a tomato sauce without a dash of olive oil and with. If you eat very lean, your food will really not taste better. And then you know for sure that you are not sticking to your diet.
6. I feel sorry for myself
It’s not fair: all your friends can eat anything and are really slim, while you always have to diet! Yes, you think you should die, but your motivation doesn’t come from within. It feels like a punishment that is imposed on you from the outside. And punishment is simply not the best motivation to really change behavior. Be honest with yourself. Can your friends really eat anything? Or do they just stop after two bitterballen in the cafe, while you still finish the bowl of nuts? Flip the switch. Don’t see healthy eating as pathetic, but as a way to take good care of yourself. Make it tasty, don’t make it too strict and keep an eye on the balance. Just like your friends do.
