Telecommuting is on the decline. According to a Harris Interactive study carried out for the Ministry of Labour, 64% of employees declared working “remotely” (including 30% in complete telework) at the end of January 2021; on the other hand, 36% of employees claimed to go to their place of work every day. This is less than in November 2020 when they were 70% to work “remotely” (including 45% full-time).
Telecommuting raises a lot of questions, and in particular practical questions: how to dress when working from home? If, of course, the suit and tie / the blouse / the pantsuit is often essential during meetings, what about our outfit when the webcam is off? Can we… stay in pajamas?
Pajamas while working from home: no loss of productivity but a negative impact on mental health
A recent study published in the Medical journal of Australia and conducted with 163 professionals working from home confirms: “wearing pajamas is not associated with differences in productivity“among teleworkers. To us, therefore, very soft dressing gowns and super-comfortable fluid pajamas!
There remains a problem: according to the Australian researchers, “wearing pajamas seems to be associated with an increased risk of mental health deterioration (59% among teleworkers in pajamas at least once a week compared to 26% for others)“. Scientists therefore recommend keeping the ritual of dressing “as if to go to work” when working from home, to preserve your mental health.
