The new Suzuki S-Cross is presented as a pure SUV with a much more massive look than the previous one, despite the dimensions unchanged. Still offered in 4 x 4, it will be launched with a light hybridization engine before the arrival of an unprecedented simple hybrid mechanic.
As promised, Suzuki today presents the new S-Cross. Little evolving on the technical level, the SUV retains the dimensions of its predecessorith still 4.30 m long, 1.79 m wide and 1.58 m high for 2.60 m of wheelbase. The capacity of its trunk does not change either with 430 l claimed, rear seat in place. The maximum loading volume, however, loses 39 l and announces no more than 1,230 l. The S-Cross remains relatively light with an empty weight, which remains just under 1200 kg in the basic configuration. However, the Japanese crossover changes radically.

A rugged look for the new S-Cross
On the look side, the new Suzuki S-Cross has little to do with its predecessor. Its large, less inclined lights join a grille that goes down to the lower air intake of the front bumper. This grid with a sculpted mesh is covered in its upper part by a metal rod connecting the optical units. The hood seems more horizontal than before for a higher bow. This is underlined by a gray metal plate framed by black plastic protections extending onto the sills. The wheel arches adopt an angular shape. The raised rear lights, also less stretched upwards than on the previous model, are linked by a black band which incorporates the manufacturer’s logo. The rear underbody is also protected by a gray metal ski.

A timid evolution inside
Unlike the exterior design, the interior presentation of the S-Cross changes little aboard this new generation. The most notable development is the installation of the central touch screen, the diagonal of which goes from 7 to 9 inches, above the console in which it was previously integrated. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth and USB connectivity are on the program. The instrument cluster remains faithful to the needle counters. The dashboard is more sculpted, and several buttons have been redesigned or moved compared to the model launched in 2013. The physical touches are still numerous. The five occupants can enjoy a large panoramic sunroof, and the rear seat reclines while remaining split into two parts. Details of finishes and equipment will be known later.

Micro-hybrid to start, hybrid in 2022
We could expect a larger and more electrified range of engines for this new S-Cross, but the latter will take over the mechanics of its predecessor. At least when it was launched.

Initially, therefore, it will be offered exclusively with the four-cylinder turbocharged petrol direct injection 1.4 l BoosterJet of 129 hp with 48 V light hybridization. two cases) and two or four wheel drive.
The S-Cross therefore retains the advantage of a rare all-wheel drive in its segment. In the second half of 2022, thehe European range will be extended with a classic hybrid engine. Few details have been released about it; it could be provided by Toyota as part of the partnership between the two brands. Before getting under the hood of the S-Cross, this powertrain will be inaugurated by the Suzuki Vitara. The new S-Cross is to be marketed on the Old Continent at the end of this year. On the other hand, the first deliveries will not take place before 2022.
