Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is a rare genetic disorder characterized by very elastic skin, which gives it a wrinkled appearance. Sara Geurts, a 26-year-old model, has dermatosparaxis, an even rarer version of the disease that makes her skin flabby and extremely fragile. A fragility that is also found in the muscles and joints. According to SciencePost, this disease would affect 5000 people in the world. If the young woman today reveals her body without complexes, she spent her adolescence hiding the effects of this disease.
Assume your difference
“Around the age of 22/23, I started to look at my body differently. It makes me sad to think that I looked at it, throughout my childhood, as something horrible” says- her in a video published by Barcroft TV. In 2015, the young woman, who lives in Los Angeles (United States), takes her courage in both hands and decides to send natural photos of herself to “Love Your Lines“. This photographic project posted on Tumblr, encourages women to assume their bodies imperfect and to highlight beauty without artifice, far from the usual standards of the fashion world. Her story was shared on social media and her photos shared more than 25,000 times.
A click for the young woman who learns little by little to love her body, and who decides to embark on modeling to try to upset the criteria of beauty current. “I would like to show that true beauty is our imperfections and our uniqueness” she says, still in the video from Barcroft TV.
