” Work is health.” Perhaps the building craftsmen hum the words to Henri Salvador’s song when they get up in the morning. Indeed, according to a national survey carried out by the Confederation of Crafts and Small Building Enterprises (CAPEB), half of them work more than 50 hours per week. This is the first time that a study has looked into the physical and psychological conditions at work of building craftsmen.
1 in 2 craftsmen regularly stressed

According to the survey, one in two craftsmen consider themselves to be regularly stressed in the course of their work. Stress due to lack of sleep and severe fatigue. In particular, it can lead to “burnout”, a syndrome of professional exhaustion. In addition, several studies have shown that too much stress at work increases the risk of developing diabetes by 45%.
Improvements Track
In view of these results, the CAPEB insists on the importance of “responding to the urgency of a situation so far poorly understood and unknown” and gives several avenues to improve it. It offers in particular professional medical monitoring and periodically so as to detect any occupational illnesses, as well as the development of a system, with the aim of monitoring the warning signs of stress and burnout among construction craftsmen.
