Good quality sleep is essential for health, but also to limit the effects of aging on the skin. This link was made by researchers at the University Hospitals Case Medical Center in a study conducted by the brand Estée Lauder and presented at the International Investigative Dermatology Meeting in Edinburgh. Scientists are clear: lack of sleep is associated with signs of aging skin. Among other things, people who do not get enough sleep are more critical of the appearance of their skin than those who sleep well.
This study is the first to scientifically prove the correlation between skin health and sleep deprivation. The researchers analyzed the habits of 60 premenopausal women aged 30 to 49, half of whom had poor sleep. A clinical evaluation of the skin and several tests were carried out on the participants in the study, and the finding is clear: after a good night’s sleep, the skin recovers better in the face of stress factors. In case of bad nights, the signs of aging skin like wrinkles, pigmentation and sagging, increase. Finally, the perception of the appearance of the skin and the face is better when you sleep better.
