Falling asleep faster, increasing libido, avoiding infections, improving fertility and self-esteem… the list of benefits of sleeping naked is long. Why Doctor explains to you.
- Sleeping naked is good for your health.
- Several studies have demonstrated its benefits in terms of health and quality of life.
Sleeping naked is fine, and most people agree on that. However, only 10% of French people do it. They might change their minds when they learn these seven scientific reasons why sleeping at night in the simplest device is good for your health.
Faster falling asleep, prettier skin… benefits for your body health
By sleeping naked, you are more likely to fall asleep quickly. Body temperature is one of the factors in the proper functioning of the circadian rhythm or biological clock. It changes throughout the day and decreases during the evening. This is why you feel a drop in energy after a certain hour. Sleeping naked will lower your body temperature faster and help you fall asleep faster. We therefore avoid overheated rooms as well as pajamas.
This drop in body temperature also stimulates the anti-aging hormone, melatonin. It regenerates cells, which improves the quality of skin and hair.
Not wearing clothes also allows the body to breathe and reduce perspiration and humidity, and therefore reduce the development of bacteria and infections, especially vaginal infections in women. Remember that the vagina is a warm, moist environment, making it an ideal place for bacteria to grow. Therefore, sleeping naked allows some of the heat and moisture from the vagina to escape during the night, and helps reduce the risk of yeast infection. Choose cotton sheets over synthetic sheets which are less breathable.
Well-being: sleeping naked also boosts libido
Sleeping naked is good for the libido. As you might guess, sleeping naked can give your partner food for thought and help rekindle or keep the flame going. According to investigation conducted in 2014 in the United Kingdom, among 1,000 married couples, 57% of those who slept naked said to themselves “extremely happy” of their couple, compared to 48% of those who preferred to sleep in pajamas. “There are many factors that can affect the success of a relationship but one very important factor is the bedroom environment.“said researcher Stephanie Thiers-Ratcliffe, who worked on the study.
In 2018, researchers conducted a study out of 656 men and found that those who wore boxer shorts produced more sperm than those who chose tighter underwear. Probably because loose underwear helps keep the testicles cool. On the contrary, the high temperature of the scrotum can negatively affect their function. Logically, sleeping naked allows your testicles to air out at night, which increases sperm production.
Stay naked to improve self-esteem?
A other study, also published in 2018, showed that participating in “naturist activities” can improve quality of life, body image and self-esteem. We can easily imagine that this also applies to sleeping naked.
Finally, when you sleep in pajamas, underwear or under a duvet, you limit your production of growth hormone, or somatotropin. This stops you from burning fat overnight and hurts your muscle recovery. Conversely, sleeping naked can help you move freely and regulate levels of the stress hormone cortisol, which can lower blood pressure, stimulate appetite and boost libido.
And to finish thinking about our planet, which says nudity, says more pajamas and therefore less washing powder and water, it makes sense.
