The Ministry of Sports is concerned about injuries on the ski slopes. To prevent them, it would be necessary to warm up, but also to prepare, before taking the slope! A 10-minute video with exercises to do beforehand has been released, with coach Lucile Woodward. “You may think that you just have to put on your skis and go down the slopes to ski, but no. Skiing is a sport and you have to prepare for it mentally, physically, muscularly”, she insists.
THE quadriceps and the buttocks are the muscles most stressed when skiing, recalls the coach, who does a series of squats, with transfer of body weight to the right and left. Or alternate front slits, both for the glutes and the abdominal strap.
“So that the mountain remains a pleasure”
She also offers sheathing exercises to work the deep abs, which allows you to have a better posture. And if we were looking for the “best preparation in the world” against the rupture of the cruciate ligament? Lucile offers distant feet bridges to protect herself.
The objective is to follow these exercises to prepare your muscles, not when you get to skiing, but 30 days before going to winter sports. The ideal would be to do it 10 minutes a day, but the coach specifies that two to three times a week will already be satisfactory! Then, once there, remember to warm up 5 minutes before starting to ski, “so that the mountain remains a pleasure”.
