While the vaccination campaign against seasonal flu launched since September 25, it seems that it does not achieve the same success as in previous years.
Of course, the statistics will not be complete until January 2011, but health professionals are already seeing some mistrust of the vaccine. Pharmacists and doctors often face reluctance from patients.
The reason ? This year’s influenza vaccine incorporates a strain of the H1N1 flu. A vaccine that was not very successful last winter (only 7% of the population had been vaccinated against influenza A).
However, this year, the vaccine against seasonal influenza does not contain adjuvants or preservatives and the control procedure for the marketing authorization was carried out normally.
People at risk should therefore not hesitate to be vaccinated because the flu remains dangerous. Indeed, it kills between 2,000 and 3,500 people each year.
