A man experienced the first symptoms of spontaneous pneumomediastinum, a lung problem, while masturbating.
- People usually affected by spontaneous pneumomediastinum are young adults.
- Exacerbation of asthma is the most common cause.
The story may make you smile but it is quite serious. According to a study published in the journal Radiology Case Reports, a man allegedly ripped his lungs out after masturbating. According to the results of the scanners, his lungs were even very damaged.
Respiratory discomfort and chest pain
The story takes place in Switzerland. A man arrives at the emergency department with acute chest pain. After several examinations, the doctors diagnosed him with spontaneous pneumomediastinum.
It is a tearing of the lung membranes usually due to increased blood pressure in the rib cage. This health problem is generally manifested by intense respiratory discomfort that requires rapid treatment.
Previous cases during physical exertion
In some cases, the origin of spontaneous pneumomediastinum is unknown. But, when previous studies, researchers had reported cases occurring after physical exertion, an asthma attack or sexual intercourse. The young man explained to the doctors that the first pains appeared when he was in full act. But, until the case of this young man, no doctor had reported a case of spontaneous pneumomediastinum appearing after a person had masturbated. This is therefore a scientific first. Nevertheless, scientists believe that this single case does not establish a causal link between masturbation and the appearance of spontaneous pneumomediastinum.
