To help the elderly and their families to sort through retirement homes, a price comparison is available online.
A deteriorating state of health, the loneliness that lurks, the isolation that weighs down every day very often push our parents or grandparents to go and live in a retirement home. Leaving your home for this type of accommodation is not an easy decision for our seniors, in particular because of the financial burden that this can represent. Especially since the bill to be paid in Ehpad is not always very clear.
However, “responding to the needs of our seniors also means providing reliable information and concrete answers on housing and care,” declared Marisol Touraine, Minister of Social Affairs and Health at the conference. launch of the first official comparator of retirement home prices, in the presence of the Secretary of State for the Elderly, Pascale Boistard.
This new portal, accessible on the website www.pour-les-personnes-agees.gouv.fr, allows you to compare the prices charged by the 7,000 establishments providing accommodation for the elderly who provided information on the 7,400 in France.
Know precisely the rest of the charge
“In concrete terms, everyone can select up to three establishments at a time and compare the prices of the rooms and the services, whether they are compulsory (catering, room maintenance) or invoiced in addition, such as the provision of a television, ”explained the Minister of Health.
Thus, Internet users can know precisely what they will be billed. At the same time, thanks to the out-of-pocket simulator, they will also be able to calculate what will be left to pay at the end of the month, after deduction of the various aids such as the personalized allowance for autonomy or the housing allowance. If they wish, they can even download the admission forms directly from the price comparison.
With this new tool, the ministry hopes to “simplify the procedures for the elderly and their relatives and strengthen price transparency”, as well as better regulation of competition by forcing private operators to display clear and reasonable prices.
Quality not taken into account
A breakthrough hailed by professionals, who stress, however, that the site does not allow a quality / price comparison. “The portal does not show any quality criteria. In the hotel sector, this would amount to indicating without further clarification that some rooms are at 50 euros per night and others at 3,000 ”, regrets the association of directors in the service of the elderly (AD-PA) .
For the organization, the main obstacle to settling in a retirement home remains the still too high price for families and seniors. The law on the adaptation of society to aging, which entered into force in early 2016, provides for an improvement in the financial assistance paid to elderly people with loss of autonomy. But budgetary constraints oblige, this revaluation has not yet been recorded.
