Max messes up his last lap
Q1 and Q2
In the first session of qualifying the track gets faster and faster. The drivers therefore have to stay on the track constantly to improve their times. That also means it’s very busy. At the end of the session, Bottas has a problem with his engine. He can still come back to the pit lane and will be back in Q2.
On most cars we see yellow medium tires again in the second part of qualifying. As always, the compound you set the fastest time in Q2 determines which tires you start on tomorrow. The Red Bulls and Mercedes are having little trouble moving on to the battle for pole position.
Q3
The last twelve minutes determine who will start where in the top ten tomorrow. Hamilton struggles with his first fast lap and almost crashes. Verstappen has a better lap and sets the fastest time with a gap of more than three tenths to Hamilton.
In the second fast lap Hamilton and Bottas go faster than Verstappen. Max still has to start his last lap. He is faster in the first and second sectors, but in the last corner things go wrong. He blocks his wheel and hits the wall. His lap is over, his car is damaged and he can’t get past third. Hamilton will start on pole position tomorrow with Bottas next to him on the front row.
