The depression is not a disease that should be taken lightly: in France, it affects approximately 8% of individuals aged 15 to 75, i.e. 3 million people.*
The causes of this pathology (largely underestimated) are numerous: they can be biological, psychological or even environmental. And according to a new study published in the scientific journal BMC Medicinefood would also have a role to play.
To reach this conclusion, researchers from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain) studied the profile of 15,093 non-depressive volunteers for ten years. Verdict: at the end of the experiment, the participants who had adopted a diet called ” mediterranean » had taken less medication anti-depressants than the others.
“This experiment allowed us to observe that people who regularly ate fruits, vegetables, fish, a little alcohol and oilseeds (which are sources of vitamins, minerals, omega-3 and ” good fats”) were less prone to depression, explains Almudena Sanchez-Villegas, lead author of this work. Conversely, foods rich in trans fatty acids and saturated seemed to have a more negative impact on the health of the volunteers. However, further studies are needed to confirm these initial results. »
You will have understood: to keep your spirits up, you must first re-learn how to eat a balanced diet… Everything is linked!
