This is information that will undoubtedly be of interest to parents of little ones aged 3 to 11: the (very popular) anti-lice lotion Prioderm will no longer be marketed in pharmacies and its use will now be strictly subject to compulsory medical prescription. .
On the occasion of a review of its marketing authorization, this Thursday, December 6, 2018, the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM) posted a review concerning the Prioderm lotion on its website: it tightens the conditions of use of the product, so far over the counter in self-medication.
We can read that the lotion acts “by killing lice by a neurotoxic action”; it contains malathion and terpineol, molecules “which can cause, in excessive doses, neurological disorders: headaches, nausea, vomiting or even, very rarely, convulsions in children”.
Against lice, we opt instead for natural solutions
Prioderm lotion is therefore now contraindicated in children aged 2 years and under, “because of the higher risk of skin passage in children compared to adults with thicker skin”. The ANSM also recommends “not to use Prioderm during pregnancy or in women of childbearing potential not using contraception”.
Faced with the hardening of these conditions of use, the Mylan laboratory (at the origin of the product) therefore decided to cease the marketing of Prioderm. “Alternatives to Prioderm, which have a mechanical action, can be used as a first-line option” suggests the ANSM. What if we turned instead to natural solutions, non-toxic to health?
