Majority of TopGear readers are confident
Admittedly, asking F1 predictions among TopGear readers is like asking if a government subsidy for Werther’s Original is a good idea during bingo in the old people’s club. With such a specific target group, you may not get the most subjective answers. But still, it’s nice to see what the Dutch F1 viewers predict about Saturday’s qualifying and the race on Sunday. We did a survey on Instagram. Time for an open door: the Dutch think that the Dutchman Max Verstappen will become champion this Sunday.
Of the almost 1,500 votes, 74 percent think that Max Verstappen will be the new world champion on Sunday. Then we asked if there would be a crash between the two rivals. Opinions are more divided on this. Just over half, 60 percent, think Lewis and Max will crash during the race on Sunday. And what about qualifying tomorrow? 66 percent think that Max will be the fastest. We also gave an option to vote on how many headphones will die on Sunday. The average answer to this: no fewer than nine pieces.
Forget Max and Lewis – Räikkönen takes the win
No one other than Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen will become world champions on Sunday, unless both drivers have their points taken away for transgressive behaviour. Even then there is no title left for veteran Kimi Räikkönen. However, that does not mean that the most experienced driver cannot take another podium on the day before his retirement. Incidentally, very few people consider that chance very high. Only 35 percent think Kimi Räikkönen will set the fastest qualifying and win the race. We won’t get there with that attitude.
Just a preview
Game developer Codemasters cannot resist making Dutch fans happy with their own prediction. According to the game’s data F1 2021 it is Max Verstappen who takes pole during qualifying and then takes off with the win of the race. “Mercedes will take home its eighth constructors’ title as a consolation prize,” they say. Below you can see how Max Verstappen takes the title in the digital world.
