In the summer of 2023, HBO Max will cease to exist in its current form. Then there will be a new streaming service, in combination with Discovery Plus.
Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced this on Thursday evening during a conversation with investors. Discovery Plus will be the foundation of the app that will be released in 2023.
The disappearance of HBO Max doesn’t mean we have to do without all that content. Because all current content simply goes along with the move. The new app also offers Discovery content.
The Future of HBO Max
In recent days, there have been some rumors about the future of HBO Max and the content that will appear on it. Rumors have already said that the app would disappear in its entirety.
That story is partly true: the app may disappear, but the content remains available. Content that has already been worked on can be cancelled.
We’ve already seen that happen with the cancellation of a movie about Batgirl, which was nearing completion. This has to do with a US tax advantage; but then the film may not come out.
What the future will look like is not yet clear. It is not known whether HBO Max will delete more content or what the new service will be called. So unfortunately we all have to wait and see.
