Effective body workout
Do you want a strong and flexible body without putting too much strain on it? Then Pilates is for you. After a few lessons you can apply it yourself anytime and anywhere.
The whole body is involved in Pilates. But you mainly train your core stability. By ‘core’ is meant your torso or your core: a corset of muscles around the back, abdomen and pelvis. You need these muscles when performing all kinds of movements. A stable, strong core reduces the risk of injury, so it makes sense to train your core stability.
core of the body
With every Pilates exercise you make sure that your back, abdomen and pelvic floor are tense. Every movement you make starts at the core of the body. A strong core gives you more strength and balance with any activity. The exercises protect your back in everyday life and ensure good posture.
You can perform the exercises on a mat. You use your own body resistance. The results are stronger core muscles, better posture, greater stability, increased flexibility and overall physical fitness.
Pilates called his method “the art of control”. He strongly believed in the principle that you can control the functioning of the body with your mind. So in Pilates you need concentration. No music is used during a training, or at most a quiet background music.
Pilates is also used therapeutically. The therapy can be helpful in rehabilitation for the sick and in chronic conditions. It also aids in recovery from injuries and physical discomfort. Physiotherapists worldwide use the Pilates method as a supplement to regular treatment.
Valuable training
Pilates has many benefits, such as better body awareness, balance, coordination, strength and flexibility. However, to improve endurance, Pilates is not intensive enough. You consume relatively few calories with it. Nevertheless, it is a valuable training, because a strong center and agility are essential to feel fit. It’s not so much what you do, but much more how you do something. You can incorporate the principles of Pilates into any workout.
Starting with Pilates
Pilates can be done anytime and anywhere. In principle, you do not need anything. In order to master the real thing, it is wise if you use a good instructor who checks whether you are performing the exercises correctly. You will have to get used to the first ten lessons. After another ten, you will begin to see and feel the result. If you then take another ten lessons, you can no longer do without.
