INTERVIEW – 27 doctors were elected to the legislative elections. Dr Marc Delatte, general practitioner, reviews the parliamentary work that awaits him.
He will not deal “only with health issues,” he warns. “Unemployment is endemic in the region, employment will be one of my priorities”, explains Dr Marc Delatte, general practitioner in Cuffies (Aisnes) and recently elected deputy under the colors of La République En Marche. “But it is obvious that I will give an important place to health issues”.
The new kids are coming to the Assembly. They have their tropism, their experience, their personal journey which will guide part of their political action. This general practitioner has “always loved people and the public,” so he decided to get started, with success. Return on the files which await this new doctor-deputy.
If you had a private member’s bill to submit, which one would it be?
Dr Marc Delatte: I think we have to prioritize prevention and education. It is a long-term policy, of commitment, it is a priority of the public service. I am thinking in particular of the diabetes inflation that we are experiencing and that we must control. I am in favor, for example, of a 100% reimbursement of dietetic consultations.
We have a very telling example in Soisson. The city has a vascular risk prevention center but it is not accessible during working hours. Patients who want to consult a dietitian are not reimbursed, since there has been no nutritionist doctor here for a long time. And even if we have the SOFIA program (telephone follow-up of diabetic patients set up by the Health Insurance), a physical interview is always better than a telephone interview. Therefore, these consultations must be done 100% for diabetic patients but also for all people at vascular risk. I will insist on this proposal because we must fight this epidemic of diabetes which weighs heavily on the accounts of Social Security.
Will you support the 10 euro pack of cigarettes?
Dr Marc Delatte: JI haven’t thought about it, but it turns out that the more you increase the price, the fewer smokers you have. Having said that, we need to introduce European standards. In the Aisne, it is very easy to go as far as Belgium to bring back cartridges of cigarettes. There is a need for harmonization at the level of border countries.
But reducing smoking requires raising everyone’s awareness and stepping up prevention. I will support the proposals of the government and the President to promote prevention from primary school, especially against tobacco. I would also have voted in favor of the neutral package. It is an interesting experiment, carried out in Australia with success.
Interview with Marc Delatte, doctor-deputy in the Aisne: ” During the debate in the European Parliament, it was weeks and weeks of phone calls and news mails. We have not stopped working on MEPs and their cabinets …“
You are in an under-staffed department … What measures will you support to fight against medical deserts?
Marc Delatte: There is an arsenal of measures to be explored – modify the rules for success in the competition on the numerus clausus, perhaps increase it according to regional specificities and better manage flows to avoid heliotropism. We must also promote internships in general medicine, restore the image of this profession.
On the other hand, coercive measures such as selective agreements have so far not shown great effectiveness. I believe that it would be preferable to favor levers based on dialogue, such as, for example, contracts with young people who leave the faculty of medicine and who settle in their region of origin.
This requires meeting people in the field, discussing and choosing the best, the most efficient. In any case, avoid vertical decisions. This is a specificity of La République En Marche: first the dialogue, the field, to then decide with all the actors, the best.
