Decidedly, the world of food trucks inspires Peugeot. After a concept presented at Milan Design Week in 2015, the Lion brand’s Design Lab department imagined a new transformation based on Expert on behalf of Whirlpool.
Our journalist Didier Ric will have to bring out his chef’s hat! Six years after the presentation of the “Bistrot du Lion” concept, Peugeot is back. This time, the brand was approached by the household appliance specialist Whirlpool to showcase its new steam combi ovens during a tour across France. As in 2015, it was once again the Design Lab department, responsible for all projects outside the automobile at the Sochaux manufacturer, which was called upon to contribute. It started from the base of an Expert Long, transformed by the BCC company in Hauts-de-France. On the left side, a huge butterfly door to make a Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing pale allows you to deploy two large Italian ceramic worktops to the outside. A blind in the extension of the door is used to protect the attendant from the sun or rain.
Other copies planned outside France
Contrary to what we see in a classic food truck, the kitchen is therefore not relegated to the back of the cabin. This was a request from Whirlpool, which used this tool to train nearly 500 salespeople in 20 different cities in 2021. Placed at the same height as his students, the chef can thus more easily carry out demonstrations. It has a sink, a hob, storage space and two ovens within easy reach. This very special Peugeot Expert also benefits from a trailer matching its colors, in order to carry a fridge powered by solar panels, but also accessories. At the rear, a multimedia system with sound bar and large screen can be used to broadcast tutorials and the detailed characteristics of the ovens. This is another element inspired by the “Bistrot du Lion”. But, unlike the latter, this food truck should not remain unique. In a second step, Whirlpool plans to order other copies for its Italian, Polish or British subsidiaries. When he puts on his chef’s apron, Didier may therefore be able to take the opportunity to treat himself to a weekend in Rome!
