Nopermanent hair removalwithout a doctor. The Paris Criminal Court issued its opinion on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, by ordering fines of 3,000 to 50,000 euros for aesthetic treatment practices for “illegal practice of medicine“. For several years, this question was the subject of complaints by doctors to the courts. The most heavily sanctioned company is International Esthétique, which has more than 150 establishments in France. Other companies such as the Alesia Minceur, ACMTH or Depil Tech centers were condemned for pulsed light hair removal performed in 2014. Currently, 30,000 institutes in France offer a permanent hair removal service using pulsed light.
Health risks
If beauticians have the right to perform waxingor with tweezers, this is not the case for pulsed light hair removal. Indeed, a 1962 decree mentions that “tout mode of hair removal is a medical procedure, except for hair removal with tweezers or waxBecause this technique involves the risk of burns and therefore requires medical supervision, for example by a dermatologist.
Pulsed light can also be used to eliminate Brown stains, often difficult to differentiate from melanoma. The management of this melanoma is then delayed, and the health risks are increased. Dermatologists also fear the consequences of pulsed light on tattooed or highly pigmented skin.
