Online stores are increasingly luring consumers with products that are no longer available at all. The Consumers’ Association received persistent complaints about this and launched its own investigation. People from the union ordered a total of 22 products from 7 different online stores, because they suspected that they were not available due to the popularity. And guess what: only two of the 22 items turned out to be available.
This amounts to deception, according to Consumers’ Association director Sandra Molenaar. The Thuiswinkel Waarborg quality mark, which should address retailers about this, has not yet taken any action. Much to the dissatisfaction of the Consumers’ Association. No complaints have yet been received via the complaints desk within this framework, says Thuiswinkel.org (the company behind the quality mark). The organization does recognize that it is misleading if online stores provide incorrect information about their stock and wants to take action on this.
