Not easy to get an appointment with a specialist doctor and things are not getting better, according to a study conducted by the statistical service of the Ministry of Health.
Obtaining an appointment with the specialist: what timeframe?
The Ministry of Health conducted an investigation whose results, not surprisingly, testify to a real imbalance between Paris, the Paris region and the province. The times to get an appointment with a specialist increase as soon as you move away from the capital. And things shouldn’t be getting any better.
In question, the medical deserts. The lack of general practitioners in France was alarming, that of specialists is even more so. We now know thatyou have to wait on average 80 days to get an appointment with the ophthalmologist, when 29 days are sufficient to obtain a consultation in Paris.
Waiting times in detail
Also know that you will have to be patient 61 days to be able to go to a dermatologist, 50 days for a cardiologist, three weeks for a pediatrician or a radiologist. The times are of course shortened when it comes to an emergency or a worsening of symptoms.
To overcome this problem and the lack of ophthalmologists in particular, some experts recommend reorganizing, for example, the vision care sector. Opticians and orthoptists could see their skills expand. A decision far from unanimous in the union of ophthalmologists.
