In the same way that all States are not equal in the face of obesity, not all diets in the world are created equal. According to a recent nutritional study published in the scientific journal The Lancet Global HealthChad and Sierra Leone have the most balanced diets.
This colossal study, which looked at the eating habits of 4.5 billion people (90% of the world’s population!) in 197 countries, between 1990 and 2010, has just delivered its conclusions. In particular, we learn that the countries most affected by the junk food are Belgium and Hungary, and that, in general, the eating habits of northern and western countries remain particularly harmful to health.
Alert the public authorities
Tunisia, Cape Verde and the islands of Barbados hold the record for fruit and vegetable consumption, while Azerbaijan, Slovakia and the Czech Republic are particularly suffering from the ravages of junk food. China and India have not experienced any nutritional changes in 20 years.
“Our forecasts indicate that by 2020, pathologies linked to poor diet and overweight will increase exponentially, on the order of 75%, explains Dr Fumiaki Imamura, of the University of Cambridge, lead author of the study. We hope that our work will alert public authorities. »
