What do we really find on our plates? What are food labels hiding? What is the real nutritional value of such food? So many questions that should be answered by the “food map” imagined by researchers at the University of North Carolina. This publication would disentangle the truth from the false on food by compiling more than 600,000 food references. This project, the content of which is explained in the review Nutrition News, is currently intended for Americans. Designed as a huge database, it aims to help consumers navigate the jungle of food products that are flooding supermarket shelves to make smarter choices.
Take the example of a chocolate bar, a candy that Americans are fond of. Currently, it is difficult to compare the energy intake from one bar of chocolate to another, as there are so many different brands. This food card will bring together all the existing offer on chocolate bars and will detail the nutritional composition of the various derivatives.

For parents, this food bible will be a very useful tool in ensuring thebalanced dietof their children. It will be easier for them to offer at snack chocolate bars less rich in sugars and fats.
This food guide is part of a policy of transparency and prevention of overweight and obesity, a major public health problem in the United States. The project started in 2010 when 16 multinational agribusinesses promised First Lady Michelle Obama to participate in the fight against obesity.
