Even when you sell something via the internet, you can be scammed in various ways. One way is through a ‘buyer’ who is happy to pay in cash. As a result, you are not immediately suspicious.
Because the buyer doesn’t live nearby, he sends a courier to have the cash delivered and pick up the item you offered. You will then supposedly receive an email from this courier service, because insurance still has to be paid for the service. You must do this by purchasing gift cards or prepaid cards. You must then pass on the codes of these cards to the courier service.
When you refuse this, sometimes a few more messages from the carrier with threatening language follow. It is said that you will be classified as an internet scammer by the police and Interpol and that legal proceedings will follow. In the end, an envelope is never delivered or anything is picked up.
So don’t go into this. If you have not yet purchased tickets, we recommend that you cut off contact with this buyer and notify the trading platform and the Fraud Help Desk.
Have you already bought tickets? If you have not yet passed on the codes, you can go back to the (web) shop to ask whether the paid amount can be returned.
