After the discovery of a case of avian influenza in a farm of 4,500 chickens in the town of La Dornac, in Dordogne, last week, a duck farm in this same town has also just been affected according to France Blue Perigord.
The checks were carried out at the end of last week and the prefecture yesterday confirmed the presence of the H5N1 virus among the 24,500 palmipeds on this farm. All the animals concerned are being slaughtered.
We don’t know where the virus comes from
However, the breeding had been emptied last spring, like all the breeding of Dordogne and the 7 other departments. affected by bird flu, to stem the progression of the epizootic.
The aim was to eradicate the virus on the farm by avoiding contact of poultry and palmipeds with wild birds, which could transmit it. For now, no one knows where the virus that affected the ducks came from. These are not all at the same stage of the disease, which seems to exclude on-site contamination.
This slaughter is a real economic disaster for the breeder who has had no resources for six months and who, according to France Bleu Périgord, is still awaiting the first compensation.
